The Emergency Preparedness Act determines what the federal government and its institutions need to do to ensure that they are always ready to discharge their responsibilities in emergencies.  The Act makes it incumbent upon each federal Minister responsible for a department, agency or Crown corporation, to develop and implement plans to meet all types of emergencies within his/her area of responsibility, and to be prepared to assist other Ministers and other levels of government in times of emergency.
